<div data-wrapper="true" style="font-size: 12px; font-family: "Segoe UI", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif">
You are entitled to access health care provided by the National Health Service (NHS) without charge while your claim or appeal is being considered.

If you are housed in initial accommodation, you will be referred to a health team based within the accommodation. The exact process may vary depending on the area you are accommodated in.

The purpose of the health assessment is primarily for your personal benefit. It is an opportunity to get caught up with your vaccinations and identify any health conditions you might have that need intervention or support. It is recommended that you attend, but not compulsory.

If you are not in initial accommodation or have been dispersed, you should register with a doctor (known as a general practitioner or GP) as soon as possible, so that you can get medical care if you need it.

You can search for a list of GPs in your local area on this website. To register, you may be asked to give your name, date of birth, address and telephone number if you have one. You will also need to complete a new patient record check. You may also be asked to show your ARC to prove that you are an asylum seeker and have an entitlement to free health care.

The GP practice must accept you, unless it has reasonable grounds to refuse you. These must not relate to race, gender, social class, age, religion, sexual orientation, appearance, disability or a medical condition. You should not be refused registration or appointments because you do not have a proof of address or personal identification at hand.

If you are staying in initial accommodation in Scotland, details of your GP will be posted to your long-term accommodation address within one week of dispersal. In Scotland, asylum seekers can access NHS services for as long as they remain in the country, whether or not they have an ongoing asylum application.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be entitled to receive full or partial support in paying for some NHS costs.

If you are supported under Section 95 of the Immigration and Asylum Act, you should receive a health form known as a HC2 certificate which entitles you to receive the following:

Free NHS prescriptions

Free NHS dental treatment

Free NHS sight tests

Help with the cost of glasses or contact lenses

Help with the cost of travelling to receive NHS treatment

Free NHS wigs and fabric supports

The HC2 certificate will either be given to you in initial accommodation after you have been granted S95 support. If you have not received your HC2 certificate after 18 days, please contact Migrant Help on 0808 8010 503. The HC2 certificate is usually valid for six months. If you are still in receipt of Section 95 support, then you should automatically receive a new HC2. If this is not received, please Call our free helpline on 0808 8010 503

Raise an issue: Raise an Issue (custhelp.com)

Find more information about the HC2 certificate: HC2 certificates (full help with health costs) | NHSBSA

If you are not receiving Home Office S95 support, you may still be eligible to receive partial/Full support and will need to complete a HC1 form. Details can be obtained via NHS Low Income Scheme | NHSBSA. To renew an HC2 certificate you will need to complete a new HC1 form.
