<div data-wrapper="true" style="font-size: 12px; font-family: "Segoe UI", "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif">
Upon receiving notification of your status, it is important that you begin to take steps to ensure that you have the necessary support in place prior to the end of the 28-day grace period. Migrant Help can provide Move On advice to assist in preparing for your new life in the UK.

Once we know that you have been notified of the decision, we will contact you within one working day to advise of the support we can provide. If you wish to receive our assistance, we will schedule a follow-on appointment. Appointments will be appropriate to any vulnerabilities/needs you may have and will be provided either via telephone or face to face.

Migrant Help delivers this support in partnership with other organisations.

Overview

Positive Move On advice is designed to help you to integrate in the UK. It will assist you with organising important issues like accommodation, finances and employment for when you leave the Home Office support and/or accommodation.

How to access Positive Move On advice

Support will be available to you for up to 28 days after your leave to remain has been granted. Please let our partner organisation know if your Biometric Residence Permit has not yet arrived.

An initial meeting will be arranged for you. This meeting will usually take place by telephone, although in some circumstances it can be in person. Interpreters will be available for your appointments if needed.

How we will help

The 28-day grace period is an important time and we will provide you with the support needed to give you the best start after you leave the asylum process.

During this period, we (or our partner organisation) will offer you a minimum of three appointments with our advisers, either on the telephone or face to face. Depending on your circumstances you may need fewer or more meetings than this.

Meetings with a Settlement Support Adviser will be available between 9am and 4:30pm from Monday to Friday.

During these appointments we will cover the following topics:

• Grace period: the adviser will explain the length of the grace period and that on the end of it you will no longer be entitled to accommodation/asylum support payments.

• Housing and welfare: the adviser will explain the importance of securing housing and welfare payments prior to the end of your grace period to ensure you/your family avoid destitution, and how our Move On service can help.

• National Insurance: the adviser will explain the purpose of, and how to apply for, a National Insurance Number (NINO).

• Mainstream welfare and labour market: the adviser will explain the main benefit types you may be eligible for and how to apply for them (e.g. JSA/ESA/Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction). If you are ready to look for a job, we will explain the role of Jobcentre Plus and other local employment services in supporting you to secure a job.

• We will help you book a work-focused interview at your local Jobcentre Plus, where you will get support to find a job and access benefits/welfare support while you are looking for work. We will explain how to get to your local Jobcentre and the documents you will need to take with you.

• We will signpost to the local authority housing team and any other relevant organisations, who will be able to offer assistance with populating a homelessness application letter.

After each appointment, we will summarise the advice given and email/post you any guidance materials as needed.

We will regularly check with you after your appointments to see what further assistance you may need.

It is important that you also understand there are some things that Positive Move On advice does not include.

• We do not complete forms for you.
